Former Borussia Dortmund (BVB) manager Michael Meier turns 70 this Friday. Meier, who managed the club from 1988 to 1991, oversaw a period of success for the Black and Yellows, winning the Bundesliga title in 1990 and the DFB-Pokal in 1989. Meier also led the club to the final of the European Cup in 1991, where they lost to Juventus.

Meier was born in Dortmund in 1952 and began his playing career with local club SV Sodingen. He joined BVB in 1974 and played for the club for 10 years, making over 300 appearances. Meier retired from playing in 1984 and began his coaching career with the club's youth team. He was appointed manager of the first team in 1988 and quickly led the club to success.

Meier's greatest achievement as manager of BVB was winning the Bundesliga title in 1990. The club had not won the league title in over 20 years, and Meier's success was a major upset. BVB also won the DFB-Pokal in 1989, and Meier led the club to the final of the European Cup in 1991. Meier left BVB in 1991 and went on to manage several other clubs, including 1. FC Saarbrücken, MSV Duisburg, and Eintracht Braunschweig.

Meier is a popular figure among BVB fans and is credited with helping to restore the club to its former glory. He is a respected figure in German football and is considered one of the most successful managers in the club's history.
